What to read this Fall

Fall Season is here! It’s time to store those summer reads and get that pumpkin spice latte ready!

Is there anything better than curling up with a nice blanket and a great book? From political to girl power, here are our favourite books to read this fall:

1-She should be king by Wayetu Moore

This is the first novel from the amazing storyteller Wayetu Moore. It talks about the dramatic story of Liberia’s early years through three unforgettable characters who share an uncommon bond. “If she was not a woman, she would be king.”

2-Good and mad by Rebecca Traister

“With eloquence and fervour, Rebecca tracks the history of female anger as political fuel—from suffragettes chaining themselves to the White House to office workers vacating their buildings after Clarence Thomas was confirmed to the Supreme Court. Highlighting a double standard perpetuated against women by all sexes, and its disastrous, stultifying effect, Traister’s latest is timely and crucial. It offers a glimpse into the galvanizing force of women’s collective anger, which, when harnessed, can change history”. – Amazon

3-Becoming by Michelle Obama

An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States.

4-Small Fry: A memoir, Lisa Brennan

The Apple founder’s daughter tells the story behind their relationship and some personal memories she has with her father.

5-Sea prayer, Khaled Hosseini

If you were moved by the story of the little three-year-old Syrian boy whose body washed upon the beach in Turkey in September 2015, this book is for you! Hosseini hopes to pay tribute to the millions of refugee families who have to run away from their country in order to survive.

6-What if this were enough? Essays by Heather Havrilesky

“An impassioned and inspiring collection about the expectations of modern life and the sweet imperfections of the every day”. – Good reads

7-Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Parry Callahan

A great love story to read between the creator of the wondrous world of Narnia and the poet Joy Davidman – you don’t want to miss this!

Vancity Business Babes: Women in Action

vancouver influencers

This week it’s been full of training, PR, beautiful people, family, and friends! My heart is FULL of gratitude for all the advice and love that I’ve received even from people that I still don’t know offline!

I’ve been following the @vancitybusinessbabes account on IG for more than a year now. I remembered being seating on my bed, breastfeeding Matias, scrolling down to their feed every day trying to figure out how to get the time to attend one of their events.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Business Babes Collective is a global platform of businesswomen from around the world based on collaboration and community. They have these training that started not too long-ago call “action takers” that seems to be very powerful for small business.

I knew back when I was on maternity leave, that I had to be patient, that a time would come for me to be able to spend more time on my business, and I feel that right now is finally starting to happen. I’ve been doing baby steps since last year, but I think it’s time to start moving like a toddler now.. ok, maybe not that fast lol!

I was invited last week to “women in action” and it was beyond what I expected! The view from False Creek Yacht Club, the delicious wine, the amazing appetizers, but my favorite part was their community! Everyone was very friendly, and the speakers were so inspiring that the first thing I did when I came home was to write down everything that I learned.

If you are a small business and are looking to get more exposure, I truly recommend these events! If you go to their website ( click here ) they have their calendar there!

XO,

Athenas
